About this Event

Join us on August 26 at Third Culture Coffee in Bellevue for an author talk and book signing for The 1947 Partition Archive's collosal new work, 10,000 MEMORIES: A lived history of Partition, Independence and World War II.

10,000 Memories is a stunning visual narrative on Partition and World War II, featuring story excerpts and over 1,000 photographs, taking you on a journey across the India subcontinent, experiencing history vicariously through the stories of those who lived it. This inaugural book from The 1947 Partition Archive is a passionate labour of love by a team of 40 editors, curators and artists, as well as 10 contributing authors, featuring the stories of over 300 Partition witnesses. The book unveils new threads of histories that contextualize the 1947 Partition within the larger global impacts of World War II. It is the most comprehensive work yet, on lived histories of Partition. Every page of 10,000 Memories is the result of over 30 hours of oral history documentation, archival and curation work.

The book has no front or back, and opens on one side in Afghanistan in the west and on the other side, in Myanmar in the east. The stories showcased give voice to diverse communities previously left out of the larger narrative of the 1947 Partition and mid-20th century South Asian histories. Come explore the beautiful untold stories of South Asia unlike any you have heard before.
